There's a First Time for Everything

... and this cake is no exception! I have wanted to learn how to decorate cakes for a long time. I decided to take a local cake decorating class, sponsored by Wilton. This weekend, I learned the first steps to success. It's funny how it took so much preparation and so much time to make this small, simply decorated cake. Despite it's imperfections, I was pretty proud of it.

There is so much to learn in so little time. Our instructor told us how to smooth the buttercream icing, but we didn't have enough time to do it in the class. So, I will try that technique on my next cake. The colors and design of this one were inspired by a friend's adorable little girl. She was sporting a cupcake tee this weekend...

I look forward to sharing many more cake experiences with you!

what's your buttercream recipe/technique? I'd love to know the secret. My buttercream always turns out too liquid and doesn't have that nice light puffiness.

Hey Michael! My response to your post must have been too long. I sent you an email with the recipe. Good luck!
