Happy 10th Birthday, Skylar!

I had the privilege to make a horse themed cake for Skylar's 10th birthday! Her favorite color is purple, her birthday party is this weekend, so I got to it and made her this cake-- complete with sparkler candles!

Butter cream frosting and I don't see eye to eye. Every time I use it I want to give up on cake decorating. I prefer the clean, smooth look and the only frosting that offers that option is fondant. If you have had fondant before you know it tastes, well, like nothing. Really, it has no flavor and has the texture of clay. But... I have discovered an alternative that works and looks the exact same way as commercial fondant! Marshmallow fondant! It's easy to make and tastes much, much better than the typical bakery fondant used.

You can do anything with it, like make rope...

And horse shoes...

I used glitter on the horse shoes and made indents to make it authentic. I sprinkled glitter all over the cake to give it some shine, too! The cake itself is marble, by request, and filled with chocolate frosting. Everything is edible except the horse and candles. I really had fun making this cake and look forward to my next opportunity!

Thanks, Shannon!! I would cut into the top first, cutting it just like you would cut a pie. Stop before you get to the bottom tier. Once the top is gone, cut into the bottom the same way- just like a pie. There is cardboard under the top tier so it will stop you from cutting too far. Hope that helps! :)
