Happy 5th Birthday, Maddie!!

Sweet little Maddie is turning 5! And to celebrate, she gets to sink her teeth into this whimsical cake! Both tiers are my signature devil's food chocolate pudding cake. The top tier is frosted with chocolate butter cream and the bottom tier is frosted with white butter cream and candy Nerds!

This style of cake is called 'topsy turvy.' To see how it's shaped before frosted, watch this video:
http://janellscakes.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-make-topsy-turvy-cake.html. The green and yellow borders are gumballs...

The drape of flowers are all fondant. Some of the flower petals are turned up for a 3D effect...

The entire cake is dusted with a layer of edible glitter...

The only part of the cake that isn't edible are the crazy curly things sticking out of the rock candy and the letter candles...

We wish you a very Happy Birthday, Maddie!! We love you lots!!

Thank you, Rachel, for the opportunity to make Maddie's birthday cake!

And same to you, Shannon!! Without friends like you girls I wouldn't get to practice! :)
